Framed Print of Evidence that two ammunition trains were destroyed during an attack by Halifax aircraft

Evidence that two ammunition trains were destroyed during an attack by Halifax aircraft of
RAF Bomber Command on railway yards at Vaires, 15 miles east of Paris, during the night of
29th - 30th March 1944, is provided by reconnaissance photographs taken on the following day.
Vary severe damage was caused throughout the yards, to rolling stock, much of it laden with
armaments and other war materials, tracks and buildings.
Picture shows: A section of the railway yards at Vaires. At the top of the photograph is an area, approximately 250 x 125 yards, where apparently two ammunition trains were hit and exploded. Two parallel lines of depression mark the probable position of the trains and smoke is still rising from the wreckage, and rails have been completely out for a distance of about 200 yards.
Much rolling stock has been wrecked by the blast from this explosion, in addition to the damage caused by bombing alone.
In the centre and. lower half of the photograph, wagons and trucks, many of which were laden
with tanks and motor transport vehicles, lie wrecked.
