Access to Burma for troops and supplies must be maintained
Access to Burma for troops and supplies must be maintained and many roads are being built by the Army under unimaginable difficulties. The mountains and forests were first surveyed by military engineers and small tracks made on supply lines where maintained with the help of labourers and mules. A whole division was used for digging and uprooting trees and blasting rocks.
For this gigantic task they used bulldozers and other machinery. The supply of rations and other necessities for building the road was an achievement in itself. A two way motor road through thick forests, jungles, mountains and countless streams, built in less than six months is an achievement which must be unique in the history of road making.
