Goodbye Britain!: Six couples and three children cut themselves off
Goodbye Britain!: Six couples and three children cut themselves off from twentieth-century Britain on Friday (25-3-77) for a unique journey into the past. In a remote clearing in a wood somewhere in the West Country they volunteered to spend a year in a replica of an Iron Age settlement. The guinea-pigs, who include a doctor, a nurse, a builder and three teachers, will be paid £ 20 a week to live in a model of a British settlement of the year 300 BC for a BBC-TV series. The volunteers are dressed in replicas of the rough, handwoven clothes of the day. They have been given the implements and animals used by Ancient Britons and are building a big, round thatched house. Each couple will have one room separated from their neighbours by a thin wall of wattle. Rough: The volunteers in their Iron Age camp. March 1977 P003579
