The George Elmy lifeboat launches on a trial run. 1st June 1950
The boat sank as it returned home to Seaham, on Saturday 17th November 1962. Nine crew lost their lives, and only one survivor (Donald Burrell, who lost his brother Gordon and his son David, in the disaster) In 2009, the boat came up for sale on Ebay and was bought by the East Durham Heritage Society where it has been restored.
