A 100 year old lifeboat which plucked troops from the Dunkirk beaches and rescued
downed airmen from the English Channel during World War Two will start life afresh as a
museum piece.
The former Pull and Sail boat was to have been burnt by its Port Talbot owner, 61 year-old Mr John Hope, when he decided be had no further use for it, but he changed his mind and offered it free of charge to Swansea Maritime and Industrial Museum, whose staff took possession yesterday.
Mr Hope, of Moorland Road. Sandflelds, bought the lifeboat from another man eight years ago and
converted it to a cruiser by adding a cabin.
