The new Mumbles lifeboat passes in front of the temporary one which replaced the SS Samtampa which broke up on the rocks near Porthcawl a few months earlier.
The new lifeboat, was a twin-engine, Watson Cabin Class built at Cowes. The £ 17, 000 boat was called Manchester and District XXX (the 30th boat provided by the Manchester RNLI Branch) but as a mark of respect for the late coxswain and crew " William GammonO was added to the name.
