The heavy flow of traffic over the two main roads in the bridgehead at Anzio
The heavy flow of traffic over the two main roads in the bridgehead at Anzio, Italy has caused the surface to deteriorate and British Army Royal Engineers have been given the task of keeping these roads in repair. The only equipment they had to start this job was a stone crusher. Everything else had to be improvised.
Picture shows: Sapper W. Weston of Strafford Street, Millwall, London, fills a bucket with hot tar from an improvised tar boiler while driver W.H. Young of Dock Street, Newport, Monmouthshire attends to the fire.
