This target in Chambly, France, claimed to be one of the most important
This target in Chambly, France, claimed to be one of the most important and up-to-date permanent way depots in Europe, was the object of RAF Bomber Command attack on the night of 1st - 2nd May, 1944.
It suffered considerable damage. The points and crossings shop, and the sleeper impregnation plant, with their allied buildings, were almost totally destroyed.
The stores yards - which were well filled with stores prior to the attack were thoroughly saturated with craters, and the majority of the contents were either destroyed, or damaged.
The greater number of the buildings suffered severe damage. The main double track Paris-Le-Treport Railway line, south of the target, was severed in five places.
