In a daylight attack on April 14, 1942, a formation of RAF Boston
bombers, escorted by fighters, attacked the power station at Mondeville, near Caen, in enemy occupied Northern France.
This power station belongs to the Societe Metallurgique de Normandie and serves Caen and the Calvados Department Generally, as well as being a secondary source for the Cherbourg area.
These photographs taken during the attack, show the extreme accuracy of the bombing.
Alongside the power station are a large Steel works and other factory buildings (shown on the left of the picture).
They were attacked and several hits can be
seen.
The main part of the power station (right) is hidden by a
long line of heavy bursts.
