The Youth Hostel Association has fitted the 16th Century Elizabethan Houghton Mill
The Youth Hostel Association has fitted the 16th Century Elizabethan Houghton Mill on the River Ouse, near St Ives, Cambridgeshire, to accommodate 56 hostellers. They pay 1/- a night and sleep where the great stones once ground the corn. Part of the mill is fitted as a cookhouse and the hikers bring along sausages and other provisions and cook for themselves.
Picture taken 2 weeks after the war in Europe ended.
Houghton Mill is a National Trust owned property.
