The Rolling Stones perform a free concert at Hyde Park, London
The Rolling Stones perform a free concert at Hyde Park, London.
Picture shows a section of the fans. It is thought that the crowd number was between 250, 000 and 500, 000 fans.
Hundreds of fans cooled off in the nearby Serpentine as they waited for the concert to start. The Rolling Stones paid tribute to their former member Brian Jones who died at his Sussex home on 3rd July. Fans sang songs for him and stood in silence for him. Mick Jagger read Shelleys Adonais in memory of him.
He asked the fans in the Cockpit, a grassy area above the Serpentine, to " cool it for a minute because I would really like to say something about Brian. I don t know how to do this thing, but I m going to tryI m just going to say something that was written by Shelley."
He began: " Peace, peace! he is not dead, he does not sleep/He has awakened from the dream of life
