The conductor or conductress would either have to be a trapeze artist or a genius to devise a means of collecting fares on this tram. There are many trams like this during the rush hour, when workers leave the factory at the end of the shift. Both trams and buses are packed to the doors and even crowded on the outside, with passengers clinging on with everything except their teeth. Every night the same scene is enacted quite a number of times in the Scotswood Road, Newcastle. Hanging on to every part of the vehicle, they do a journey of about a mile, and the well worn phrase, Is your journey really necessary seems to have greater significance when you see things like this. 14th May 1944

Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. Note: measurements provided are estimated outer dimensions, which include both the image and the frame. While we aim to keep sizing consistent, exact dimensions may vary slightly due to differences in print size or production requirements, which may result in a variation in the overall size (up to approximately 2.5cm (1"))
