Members of Heart Transplant Team are interviewed at BBC Studios Line Grove, London, Sunday 5th May 1968. Britains first heart transplant was successfully carried out (3rd May) by a team of 18 doctors and nurses at the National Heart Hospital in Marylebone, London. The operation, which was led by South African-born surgeon Donald Ross, was undertaken on Frederick West aged 45. It took more than seven hours to complete. The donor, Patrick Ryan, was a 26 year old labourer. Team members pictured includes, Mr Donald Longmore, Mr Donald Ross, Mr Keith Ross & Dr Jane Somerville
