A twin engine Piper Comanche which was the cause of a full scale emergency at Sunderland
A twin engine Piper Comanche which was the cause of a full scale emergency at Sunderland Airport. The planes undercarriage failed and then it developed engine trouble as it flew over the airfield. The pilot flew low over the control tower while air traffic controller Bob Henderson scanned the underside of the aircraft for a sign of what was wrong. Eventually the pilot managed to free his undercarriage and landed the aircraft without injury to himself or his passenger.
