A RAF Hawker Siddeley Buccaneer, formerly the Blackburn Buccaneer
A RAF Hawker Siddeley Buccaneer, formerly the Blackburn Buccaneer, low-level strike aircraft.
The plane made a safe emergency landing at Newcastle Airport after flying 30 miles on just one engine but it overshot the runway and became bogged down just 400 feet from a main road.
Airport firemen were involved in an all-day operation using lifting and towing gear, to get the Buccaneer, from RAF Honnington, Suffolk, free and on hard ground. It was later moved to a hanger for inspection to damage on its undercarriage.
The crew of two were unhurt in the incident which was caused by a bird strike.
