The glory of the Elizabethan age is being recreated in Warwick - in miniature

The glory of the Elizabethan age is being recreated in Warwick - in miniature. Skilled craftsmen are now at work on replicas of historic buildings for display in the model village which will soon open in St Nicholas Park this summer. Many of the buildings, such as Stratfords Holy Trinity Church, will look unfamiliar because the models show how they would have looked in the 16th century without any later alterations and additions. Grahame White, owner of the company behind the scheme, hopes to have the village open by August with 18 models of historic buildings in the Stratford area including Shakespeares birthplace and a recreation of New Place, the house where he later lived. Research has also begun on historic landmarks of Warwick including the Lord Leycester Hospital. The company, Tendercourt Ltd, is now looking for more craftsmen and when the village is open about 10 local people will be employed adding to the stock of models and looking after maintenance. The village is on the site orf Warwicks old outdoor swimming pool and some of the water space will be used to display a scale model of Drakes fleet with 12 galleons ready to take on the Armada. Other attractions will include a ducking stool, pillory and stocksand later Mr White hopes to stage Elizabethan evenings complete with pig roast and serving wenches in traditional costume. Admission to the village will be 65p and 40p for children, with a discount for a second visit. Mr White hopes people will return as more models are added and the village gets " bigger and better."
