Two expert spinners and knitters are on their first ever visit to London
Two expert spinners and knitters are on their first ever visit to London, where they are spending two weeks showing Londoners how to spin and knit some-thing large, yet so fine that it can be pulled through a wedding ring. The experts are two housewives, Mrs. Jean Nicholson (57) and Mrs. Catherine Priest (55) both of whom live in Crofts in the Northern Shetland Islands. today they were showing how they make the cobweb-like shawls, which take them both six months to complete, every thread is 2-ply spun from Shetland sheep of fine wool. they work every evening in their crofts both spinning and weaving the cobweb-like yarn. At the Ceylon Tea Centre in Regent Street, they were demonstrating their art, and on display were many examples of Scottish craftsmanship offering a very wide range of ideal and unique Christmas gifts.
