A new type of inshore lifeboat which will be able to operate at night is undergoing trials in Cardigan Bay, off Aberystwyth.
The RNLI has sent the 17 foot six Inch Inflatable Zodiac Mk IV to Wales with one of its inspectors who will report back to headquarters on its suitability as a rescue craft.
