The first party of Auxiliary Territorial Service (ATS) attached to the 21st Army Group arrive in Normandy, Northern France following the successful Allied landings on the beaches on 6th June. Their duties are to act as clerks on the beachhead.
This picture shows the first party of 24 arriving by landing craft at one of the Normandy beaches.
In picture: Major W.N. Tyndale, who has been working on the beaches since the early days of the landings, examining the disembarkation ticket of one of the girls. She is Private Marjorie Johnstone of Ruislip.
