Inter-Allied air cooperation is particularly marked in Corsica where units of the French Air Force are flying Spitfires of the most forward of the Allied squadrons operating against German occupied Europe from their Mediterranean bases.
Their airfields, well north of the battle line of Italy - are within 50 miles of the Italian coast to the east and north-east and within a hundred miles of the coast of France to the north area.
The French units ground crew, who were trained by the RAF during the Tunisia campaign, have been equipped with American Uniforms and overalls.
But that does not complete the story of the squadronOs international character, for serving with then are the USaF liaison officers and RAF technicians and specialist officers.
The French pilots flew to the island in answer to a call from the people of Corsica who who had risen against the Germans following the Italian Armistice.
