Flying through dense cloud, a Norwegian pilot led a strong force of Mosquito fighter planes from RAF Coastal Command over his native mountains to attack a large enemy merchantman in Dalsfjord, the longest and narrowest fjord along the Norwegian coast on 23rd March 1945. After the leader had silenced the heavy flak put up by this armed vessel, the rest of the aircraft surged in from all angles, raking the ship with rocket cannon and machine gun fire. The merchantman was left blasting fiercely and in a sinking condition.
