Leaving today, (Tuesday 25th May 1965) on the first leg of his round the world trip is 31

Leaving today, (Tuesday 25th May 1965) on the first leg of his round the world trip is 31 year old Jim Parkinson who will drive a home made car powered by a lawn mower engine.
With a top speed of about 15 mph Jim, an aeronautical draughtsman, expects to be away from his home in Redhill for more than a year. It has taken him almost that time to fix up visas and other documents with the Russians and Americans. He hope to cross the Iron Curtain in East Germany on the 1st June.
Say Jim, " Its a lovely way to travel. Modern cars are so fast you just cannot take in the scenery. But it has its snags. The car is too small to take onto Motorways and Autobahns. Also there is no hood, so Jim is hoping for fine weather.
