Local Government and Inner Cities Minister Michael Portillo unveils a plaque to mark the opening of the Teesside Park Interchange, with him is Ron Norman, chairman of the TDC. 24th September 1990. The cicil engineering job completed by construction firm Birse, of Middlesbrough, was completed at the Teesside Park retail and leisure complex site. It involved eight miles of piling into peat land at the former racecourse site so an interchange and 500, 000 square ft shopping centre could be built. Also pictured outside new Toys R Us store
