And on Monday, August 28, 1972, villagers from Thornley, Co Durham, saw Stevie, a 17-yeare-old factory worker, crowned Miss Crimdon at the traditional Bank Holiday Crimdon Lido glamour contest.
Stevie, who won the Miss Thornley village title to qualify for the Crimdon finals, beat 12 other girls for first place.
