A coach bound for Holland and carrying 43 members of the Corps of Drums of Coventry School of Music, left the Cheylesmore School, Mile Lane, yesterday, after a send-off from the colonel-in-chief of the corps, Mr. E.W. Pendleton, Chief Constable of Coventry. Nine seats were removed from the 52-seater coach in order to accommodate the instruments of the corps members, who were led by their commanding officer, Mr. J.T. Rose. The corps will take part in the International Music Festival in Purumerend, Holland, but will be staying during their 10-day visit in the city of Alkamaar as guests of the City Fathers. In return for board and lodgings, the corps will give musical demonstrations and parades in the city. A wooden plaque, which has been decorated with the Coventry crest by members of the corps, will be presented to the officials of Alkamaar by Mr. Rose, together with literature on Coventry and its cathedral. Mr. J.E. Parbury, founder of the Coventry School of Music, was at Cheylesmore to see off the party.
