Gracie Fields, one of Britains most popular comidiennes, actresses and singers this century. From an early age Gracie Fields began working in Music Halls and by the thirties she had amassed a massive following, so much so that she couldn t be held back from the silver screen and made her movie debut in 1931 in " Sally in Our Alley". The thirties were Gracies brightest days, becoming Britains most popular actress as well as the highest paid. She had never enjoyed much succes in America though until she went out their with her Italian born husband Monty Banks after he was expelled from England as an alien during WW2. She made three films in Hollywood, all reasonably successful then retired from showbusiness. Circa 1950
