As the British entered the small village of Amaye Sur Orne South West of Caen they found an old woman the only resident left out of a former population of 250 people The woman told Corporal George Davis of Lubenham Leicestershire Private Harold Johnson of Leek in Staffordshire and Private Harold Warden of Gloucester that she was too old to go across the Orne with the rest of the population
