Top pop group the Specials came home to Coventry last night

Top pop group the Specials came home to Coventry last night...and a rousing welcome from more than 2000 fans. The fans packed Tiffanys in the Precinct for the groups last concert of a 48-venue tour of Britain. For one man in particular, it was the night of a lifetime. Mr. Terry Hall senior, whose son, Terry is lead singer with the Specials, watched the group in action for the first time. " Its out of this world, " said Mr Hall, a technical author at the Rolls Royce Parkside plant in Coventry. " I never believed it could be so good. I m seen him on television but it was never as exciting as this." The organisers had invited the parents of all the members of the groups appearing at the concert - Dexys Midnight Runners, the Specials and the Selector. the Specials are rapidly becoming one of Britains top groups. They have had two hit singles and a top-selling album this year. Twent-year-old Terry used to do clerical work at David Fletcher Ltd. the stamp and coin dealers in Station Square, Coventry. His mother, Joan, a trimmer at Talbots Canterbury Street plant in Coventry, who was also at last nights concert, said: " Its just amazing that my son has come from working in an office to this. I think the whole thing is fantastic." Fans queued for more than two hours for last nights performance. Fears about forged tickets were allayed when only two forgeries came to light. The Specials are to appear in Coventry again on December 20th, at a charity concert for the Kampuchea Appeal.
