Fashion 1960 s. The acid test for British fashion. Its the acid test for top British fashion today (Monday 4-5-64). For foreign buyers are being shown the best autumn styles that London Fashion House Group can produce - including the one pictured hare. More than 550 buyers are in London for the show - and the fashion firms are hoping for orders worth £ 2, 000, 000. At a preview on Sunday (3-5-64) the Group showed clothes that included something for everybody. And that includes every girl and the buyers from thirty-nine counties. It was good to see the number of clothes that would not look out of place on the over-twenty-fives. But theres a gloomier side. Prices of wool outfits are up. Mr. Frederick Starke, a leading member of the Group, explained that the price of wool had inc-reased by 15 to 20 per cent. Last time the foreign buyers were here, they spent £ 1900, 000. The Americans - the biggest customers - paid out £ 300, 650 - twice the amount they spent at the Paris couture shows in January. For an evening out...The long Regency-strip skirt is made of Welsh wool and the black blouse is of delicate broderie Anglaise. The outfit, by Sambo, will cost about £ 8. May 1964 P017558
