Deckhand Richard Sorenson adores the sea. But the love-affair has been one sided, Richard, 19, has been to sea twice and both times ended in disaster. In fact, both ships foundered within a mile of each other. The freighter Maraton went to the bottom of the North Sea after hitting rocks fifteen miles off the Norwegian coast. Shortly afterwards he escaped in a lifeboat when the Swedish vessel Amie split up in heavy seas. Richard, from Liverpools Scotland Road area, hopes to sink the jinx and has been alerted to stand by to sail with the Danish tanker Bottvitt. 29th December 1971
