**Note to editors : No more information is available for this picture, i.e. the name of the boat. However it looks very much like " The Tyne" which its crests, and pale colour. Though the crests are more circular in this 1968 picture, than they are in a 1984 Mirrorpix picture. Unless the crests were updated. All to be confirmed".
The Tyne Lifeboat, the worlds second oldest lifeboat in existence and one of the North Easts most important examples of maritime heritage. The lifeboat was built in 1833 and was handed over by the Trustees of the Tyne Lifeboat Institution to South Shields Corporation in 1884. It was placed on public display in the decorative canopy as a permanent reminder of the skill and bravery of the men of the Tyne Lifeboat Institution.
