The MV Domala seen here beached between Hurst Castle and The Needles in the Solent on 6 March 1940. Following an attack on her by a Heinkel HE 111 of KG26 on the 2nd March 1940. The vessel was hit by two sticks of bombs, setting the ship alight. A total of 108 of the 291 people on board the ship were killed In India, there was public anger towards Germany as a result of the attack. Eighty-one of those killed were Indian seamen being repatriated from Germany.
