Srodzinski, of Llanbradach, part of the crew of the British Royal Navy submarine HMS Spearfish which torpedoed the German heavy cruiser ship Lutzow on 11 April 1940, whilst patrolling in the Kattegat under the command of Lieutenant Commander John Hay Forbes.
The torpedo attack damaged the German pocket battleship, putting her out of action for over a year.
