In November 1944 the Germans carried out a forced evacuation of the civilian population in the interior of Finnmark and burnt all the homes to the ground. Some of the people managed to escape into the mountains. An effective relief organisation has been built up and large quantities of food and clothing have been distributed to the population in certain areas of Finnmark.
