In two attacks Allied heavy and medium bombers recently destroyed
In two attacks Allied heavy and medium bombers recently destroyed, a heavily fortified strongpoint at Ningthoukhong in Burma.
The attacks - part of the largest combined land-air offensive on the Burma front - were planned to help the Allied land forces in their drive to regain control of the supply road to Imphal to Moirang.
They were part of a twenty-four hours-onslaught against
Japanese defence positions on the road.
American Liberators and Mitchell and RAF Wellingtons of the Strategic Air Force struck at this enemy strongpoint and one Wellington Squadron which had recently flown its one thousandth sortie took part in the attacks.
Picture shows; The crew of one of the Wellingtons talk over their part in the operation - after reaching base.
