On 24th March 1945 it was announced that Allied Forces under Field Marshall Bernard Montgomery had crossed the Rhine on a wide front north of the Ruhr River in Germany.
Elements of the first Allied airborne Army were also landed east of the Rhine. The river crossings were assisted by the Allied Navies and Air Forces.
Picture taken when landing craft were being hoisted out of the water at Antwerp docks and loaded on to transporters for conveyance too the Rhine banks by road.
