The Jewish Community holds its first service in Rangoon, Burma
The Jewish Community holds its first service in Rangoon, Burma.
Persecuted by the Japanese, their places of worship closed, the Jewish community of Rangoon yet managed to save much of their religious treasure which they hid securely during the occupation of their city.
The first Jewish service to be held publicly since the occupation of the city by the Japanese was conducted by the reverend M.A. Jaffe from Halliwell Lane, Manchester.
