In a daylight attack on Cherbourg, Northern France on 15th September 1942, 15 Boston bombers, escorted by fighters, attacked the whale oil ship " Sololimt" in the Bassin Napoleon III Railway sidings and buildings in the dock area.
Their whale oil vessel received severe damage and was later seen listing to port and partially submerged.
Picture shows: Bombs bursting on the enemy ship Sololimt and also on the adjacent quay as well as railway sidings and buildings to the south west of the basin.
