The scene at Allied headquarters at the Royal Palace of Caserta, Italy on 29th April 1945 when Lieutenant General W. D. Morgan, chief of staff, AFHQ, signs the formal surrender document previously signed by German plenipotentiaries.
The written agreement formalised the surrender of German Forces in Italy, ending the Italian Campaign.
Standing left to right are: Brigadier Lieutenant Colonel J.G. Sweetman, US Rear Admiral S.S. Lewis, Air Vice Marshal G.B.A. Baker, Soviet Major General A.P. Kislensko, Soviet Lieutenant M. Vraevsky and US Major General L.L. Lemnitzer.
