To celebrate 21st Army Groups victory over their German enemies, a salvo of 21 rounds each
from 24 3.7 Anti-Aircraft guns was fired at Field Marshal Montgomerys Headquarters at Luneberg Heath on Saturday 5th May at 3 pm, the first victory salvo fired by a British Army in the field in this war.
The guns belonged to 158, 169 and 206 Batteries of the 60th, City of London Ha. Regiment.
This regiment having distinguished itself during the London blitz, has been doing equally fine work on the continent since D-Day.
Major General M.E. Dennis, CBE, DSO Chief Artillery Adviser to Field Marshal Montgomery, inspected the gun crews and guns end chatted with the officers and men before the salute was fired.
He was accompanied by Lieutenant Colonel Hon. M. Berry, 32st Army Group GIRA.
