Heavy aircraft of RAF Bomber Command - Stirlings, Halifax, and Manchester - made a daylight attack upon the Nazi pocket-battleships, Scharnhorst and Gneisenau, and the cruiser Prinz Eugen as they lay at Brest on Thursday, December 18th. The two battleships were in dry dock, the cruiser lay in one of the basins protected by anti- sub ermine nets.
