German parachutists supported by glider borne infantry and tanks made a lightning attack
German parachutists supported by glider borne infantry and tanks made a lightning attack on Marshal Titos headquarters at Drvar on 25th May I944.
The object of the attack failed for Marshal Tito escaped to the mountains with nearly all the Allied officers attached to his staff including Major Randolph Churchill.
For over a year, Tito has been directing partisan operations from a vast grotto near the village of Drvar in the Bosnia mountains, which has seen much fighting between the partisans and the Germans, having changed hands on six occasions before the new German attack
Photo shows: partisan soldiers of the Yugoslav National Liberation Army and peasant girls go off to work the land near Drvar. They were colourful dresses, made from the parachutes dropped with supplies to Marshal Titos army.
