The crew of a small British naval vessel spent three days in a Dalmatian port recently, with some of the partisans fighting the Germans.
They were compelled to enter the port because of circumstances beyond their control.
They visited the partisan Headquarters, a barely furnished room lit by candles with a picture of Stalin on the whitewashed walls.Questions were asked and answered on both sides.
These guerrillas carried an their heroic fight in the tortuous highways and byways of the lower slopes of the Dinaric Alps.
Once a furtive underground affair in the hands of unorganised bands, the forces of resistance have now developed into a disciplined army.
Today, the partisans are in control of the greater pert of the Dalmatian coast apart from the large
towns.
Picture shows: Representatives types of the Partisan army: Many women guerrilla fighters are among their forces.
Top left is Zaga, a Serbian girl with a big reputation as a sniper among the mountains. Top right is Zina, famed throughout Croatia as a saboteur and thrower of grenades.
