An outstanding job of precision bombing on a difficult target is shown in this picture of the harbour of Split, Yugoslavia, one of the most important German held ports on the Adriatic Coast.
The bombing was carried out on the 3rd January B-25 Mitchell bombers of the US 12th Army Air Force and completely covered the railroad yards and most of the docks and shipping in the harbour with little damage to the city itself.
Photo shows: the bomb pattern beginning at the waters edge at the lower left and continuing through the railway yard and covering most of the dock area.
Shipping moored at the piers is obscured by smoke from exploding bombs.
