On the morning of 21st November 1944, Yugoslav Partisans entered the enemy-held town of Risan which had been cut off from communication with the main force, except by sea.
After days of continuous shelling by the British and sniping by the Partisans, the enemy withdrew overnight and Partisans moved in the next morning.
Picture shows: Partisans taking a rest after the battle for
Risan in the fort of Grkobac, 1 mile north of Ledenice.
The walls, of this fort are 3 feet thick in some places, with
steel shutters, and it took heavy shelling from British artillery to move the enemy.
