One of the last horse regiments in the British Army is the Jordan Frontier Force Cavalry Regiment.
It contains men of many races, including Arabs, Circassians, Druses, Armenians and some Jewish and mis officered by British Cavalry Officers descended from British Regiments and by local
officers who have obtained commissions from the ranks.
Th Regiment is mounted on Arab horses, which though smaller than English stock, some of which are used, are very sturdy and ideally suited to long arduous patrols. Discipline and training is of the British Cavalry standard. The force is equipped with modern arms and equipment including radio inter-communication equipment which renders it an extremely mobile unit.
The TJFF is at present patrolling the Turko-Syrian border to prevent illegal entry, smuggling of arms, drugs, cattle, etc. and other unlawful traffic. A typical squadron at Hambouchi on the Latakia - Aleppo road in Syria.
Picture shows: On being questioned by the patrol, a man with laden mules, protests against the suggestion that he may be carrying contraband.
