Picture shows that the centre of Frankfurt is almost wholly devastated. Although heaviest in this area, the devastation spreads eastwards and westwards to the industrial and commercial districts surrounding the important inland harbours. The main station and railway marshalling yards have
also suffered considerable damage.
Frankfurt has long beenone of the most important commercial cities in Germany, and since the war, its industries have been engaged in the production of material vital to the enemy war
effort.
