A terrific explosion occurred in the stern of the vessel when a Liberator of a Czechoslovak squadron of Coastal Command scored a hit with a heavy bomb. This action preceded the battle of the Bay of Biscay in which three Nazi destroyers were sunk by the Royal navy with co-operation of Coastal
