A British destroyer carried out a torpedo exercise and afterwards recovered the torpedo
A British destroyer carried out a torpedo exercise and afterwards recovered the torpedo.
The dummy head used was fitted with a calcium float to indicate the position of the torpedo after it had finished its run.
The whaler is used to recover the torpedo, and is lowered when the destroyer is close to it. It is removed and replaced by the more business-like warhead.
Picture shows:The torpedo seen leaving the tube after being fired from HMS Derwent in the Indian ocean.
