British and Allied Troops, Western Desert campaign, the Desert War, February to May 1943.
Just outside Foum Tatahouine, one of the outposts of the
Mareth line covers several roads and passes and consists
of a rocky hill in the middle of a valley in mountainous
country.
Trenches cut in the rock connect a number of concrete pill boxes and there are arrangements for
sleeping and cooking. But there is not provision for the use of anything but light arms and it does not appear to have been the intention to hold this position for long.
The 8th Army took it from the enemy encountering but little resistance.
Picture shows- View from one of the observation posts in the outpost.
